Greenwood Lake is a man made lake created as a result of the Buzzard's Roost Dam in the 1940's and is managed by Greenwood County under a newly created Lake Greenwood Department in 2006 it
is responsible for issuing permits for encroachments on Lake Greenwood, registration of encroachments, camping reservations on Goat Island, lake upkeep, larvicide applications and herbicide applications, as well as Greenwood County public lake access areas, assisting in complying with the FERC license, administering shoreline management, and inspection of lake encroachments.
