Neil Cost named the "Stradivarius of Turkey Call Makers" chose the Greenwood SC area to settle because of the vast woodlands,abundant natural resources and his passion for hunting & fishing made the area a perfect place to live.  Neil Cost  is partially responsible for the preservation of the wild turkey and raising the popularity of hunting the wild turkey. Donating many of his calls to the museum and to raise money for the Federation's preservation cause.(Note from webmaster Sally Morris) I am proud to say  Neil Cost " The Gobbler" is my dad. The Legend  Neil Cost His family is very proud of his accomplishments and he will live on as each generation of hunters pass these treasured works of art down to their children, and for some, privileged to have met him, they can share stories and the hunting memories with the legend,. Each year as the National Wild Turkey Federation holds it's annual banquet I am taken by surprise to see his name on the Civic Center Marquee and in store windows, It is bitter sweet knowing he lives, yet he is gone. Neil Cost Greenwood SC our most famous hunter and custom turkey call maker.

Neil's favorite turkey meet is the Georgia State Meet at Unicoi each year. He was of Fame. He has had many other awards bestowed on him through the years.One thing Neil accomplished that be hard to duplicate was bagging a double grand slam(two turkeys of each species in one year) while on crutches.

NWTF's Neil Cost Chapter Takes Top Honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Neil Cost Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation won
the Best Special JAKES Event
 award for its work in introducing youth to the outdoors through a JAKES outreach event.

The Neil Cost Chapter, headquartered in Greenwood, S.C., received the award for the best
 special event during the NWTF's annual National Convention and Sport Show, held in Nashville, Tenn.

"Each chapter that holds a JAKES event deserves special recognition, but the Neil Cost local chapter
 went above and beyond the challenge of hosting a JAKES Conservation Field Day," said Mandy Harling, JAKES program manager. "This chapter creatively implemented new and fun activities to introduce youth in their community
 to the outdoors and the hunting tradition."

The Eastern Wild Turkey is found in eastern states including South Carolina.  The Eastern Turkey has brown-tipped tail smaller feathers (which cover up larger ones) chocolate brown tail tips characterize the most abundant and most widely hunted turkey, the Eastern Wild Turkey. The tom turkey’s breast feathers are tipped in black, other body feathers are copper or bronze metallic color. The primary wing feathers have white and black bars that extend to the feather shaft, while the secondary wing feathers mainly have prominent white bars. A white area can be seen on each side of the back when the wings are folded. Hens are browner with less colorful the breast feathers are tipped in buff or chestnut.
